We arrived to the Smoky Mountains on Sunday night, to find a relaxing log cabin up in the mountains. On Monday morning I woke up to a huge deck overlooking the mountains, with the sun warming me up in a pine rocking chair. Mmmm...

That day the guys went fly fishing and unfortunately didn't have a lot of luck, but they at least looked good in their waders! While they were out, the ladies went to town to tour Biltmore Estates, the largest "residence" in the US.

Tuesday we slept in waaaay too long, but it felt so good! Later in the day we went on an early evening hike that turned out to be a little more than we bargained for!

The hike was 7.4 miles and very beautiful, but difficult. At the trailhead we saw this sign that read "Campsite #40 is closed due to aggressive bear activity" yikes! we did not see campsite #40 on our hike... so we must have not been near it, right? But we did see one big bear track in the middle of trail.

We passed over several streams and rivers by these single log bridges.

The hike was lined with huge hemlock trees that were very tall. As we walked, many of the trees would "creek" in the wind, making it sound like they were going to fall right on us. We finished the hike just before sundown, which was perfect timing to see some elk grazing in the valley nearby.
